The project

Dr. Harsha Devalla’s group at the Amsterdam UMC is seeking a research technician with extensive mammalian cell culture expertise to provide crucial support for their research activities on cardiac disease mechanisms.

Start Date: Candidates should be able to start by 01 July 2025. In exceptional circumstances, a later start date may be discussed.

About your role

Your responsibilities will include

iPSC Culture Work (Primary Focus)

  • Maintaining iPSC lines with meticulous attention to quality
  • Executing differentiation protocols to cardiac and neuronal cell types with precision
  • Performing qPCR, flow cytometry, and immunostainings to assess iPSC quality and differentiation efficiency

Collaborative Support

  • Assist in generating new cell lines using reprogramming/gene editing techniques
  • Providing experimental support to PhD students and team members when needed
  • Mentoring Bachelor's and Master's students during their internships

Laboratory management

  • Ordering supplies, stockkeeping and assisting with inventory management
  • Maintaining up-to-date laboratory databases
  • Supporting efficient resource management
About you

Essential Educational background and technical skills

  • A degree in Life Sciences, Biology, or Medical Laboratory Research (HBO preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with cell culture (experience with iPSCs desired) and basic molecular biology techniques
  • Ability to execute experiments with precision, analyze data, and maintain accurate records
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

  • You will be employed by Amsterdam UMC Research BV.
  • A contract for 12 months with the intention of extension (funding for this position is available for 3 years). 
  • Salary scale 7M: € 2.975 to € 4.214 gross based on full-time employment (depending on education and experience) and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. Calculate your net salary here. From July 1, 2025, there is a 3% salary increase.
  • Holiday hours: 190,4 per year for fulltime and a possibility to save additional hours.
  • Pension accrual with BeFrank, a modern, comprehensible and fairly priced pension.
  • For >7 km each way, 100% reimbursement for public transport travel costs and, for private transport, €0.18 per km up to a maximum of 40 km each way.
  • Do you prefer walking or cycling? Take advantage of our good bike scheme. Moreover, you will receive a reimbursement of €0.18 per km.

Dr. Devalla's group is based in the department of Medical Biology at location AMC, consisting of six independent research groups, a number of PhD students, research technicians and staff scientists. It is a very international, dynamic and collaborative environment with plenty of opportunities for personal and professional development.
