The project

The Emma Center for Personalized Medicine (ECPM) ECPM is looking for an ambitious and driven early-career independent researcher to join our team. You will work within the Ophthalmogenetics research section of the Department of Human Genetics, contributing to groundbreaking research focused on the development of innovative molecular therapies for rare neurometabolic disorders. This role offers a unique opportunity to i) contribute to the advancement of medical science and ii) have a direct impact on the future care of patients.

About your role

As a researcher within ECPM, you will closely collaborate with other researchers and clinicians, aiming to connect various scientific studies and disease areas being investigated at ECPM. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting groundbreaking (translational) research on developing molecular therapies for rare neurometabolic disorders, with a focus on technologies such as CRISPR, non-viral gene delivery methods, 3D cell cultures and organoids, iPSC, and/or NGS;
  • Collaborating within multidisciplinary teams;
  • Developing and implementing strategies to secure external funding (e.g., VENI or similar grants);
  • Contributing to teaching;
  • Producing high-quality research publications.
About you
  • A PhD in molecular or stem cell biology or a related field;
  • Demonstrable experience in securing external funding is a plus;
  • A record of publications in relevant fields;
  • Expertise in non-viral gene delivery methods and/or technologies relevant to innovative molecular therapy development, such as CRISPR, 3D cell cultures and organoids, iPSC, and NGS;
  • Knowledge of diseases relevant to ECPM is a plus;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of Dutch is an advantage;
  • A solution-oriented, independent, and entrepreneurial work approach, combined with the ability to function as a team player.

  • Salary scale 10: € 3.493 tot € 5.504 gross based on full-time employment (depending on education and experience) and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. Calculate your net salary here.
  • Holiday hours: 186,4 per year for fulltime and a possibility to save additional hours.

  • Now still a (partial) reimbursement of your public transport travel costs. From 1 October, for >7 km each way, 100% public transport reimbursement and, for private transport, €0.18 per km up to a maximum of 40 km each way.

About your workplace
