The project

In this postdoctoral project, you will develop innovative multimodal AI frameworks to integrate diverse cardiovascular data sources. Your research will focus on combining imaging data (e.g., cardiac MRI, echocardiography), signals (e.g. electrocardiography, intracardiac signals), clinical measurements, molecular and genomic profiles to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient stratification in cardiovascular diseases. You will work on synthetic data generation techniques to improve multi-centre training while maintaining privacy, and develop methods to optimize cross-modal representations for enhanced predictive modeling.

About your role

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will:

  • Design and implement novel multimodal AI architectures for cardiovascular applications;
  • Develop synthetic data generation methods to augment sparse modalities;
  • Create frameworks for joint optimization of cross-modal representations;
  • Validate models using clinical datasets in collaboration with cardiologists;
  • Mentor PhD and MSc students and present findings at international conferences;
  • Intention to apply for grants to expand our group, and potentially start your own research group.
About you
  • You have a PhD in Computer Science, AI/ML, Biomedical Engineering, or related field;
  • You demonstrate strong programming skills in Python and have experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch;
  • You have experience in medical image analysis (multimodal learning experience is a plus);
  • You have a publication track record in top AI/ML or medical informatics venues such as NeurIPS, MICCAI, or SPIE Medical Imaging;
  • Experience with clinical healthcare data systems is a plus.

About your workplace

You will collaborate with doctoral  candidates, postdoctoral researchers, analysts, and clinical researchers conducting patient studies. We encourage active participation in the design and execution of ongoing research projects, with ample room for your own initiatives. Amsterdam UMC offers a position within an enthusiastic team where you can contribute to cutting-edge research in vascular medicine.

You will work in Dr Sean Benson at the Amsterdam Centre for Computational Cardiology Department of Cardiology (https://computational-cardiology.nl) and Dr Fleur Tjong’s group at Amsterdam UMC, location AMC. Our department is highly interdisciplinary with informatics researchers working closely together with practicing cardiologists to advance the use of AI for personalised treatment. The ultimate goal is to be able to accurately predict and simulate the effect of the best possible treatment for a patient. We foster an open culture with generally accessible collaboration. Moreover, we strive for equal opportunities for everyone, meaning there is space for each individual's culture, background, ideas, and creativity. In our excellent network with top-tier AI-research groups (e.g. from ETH Zurich, Stanford, Heidelberg, University of Barcelona, Yale, University of Amsterdam), there are many opportunities for International collaborations.

Amsterdam UMC Research BV supports non-profit scientific research. In doing so, we provide researchers with everything they need to excel. Our principal investigators (PIs) and project leaders offer support in the field of project management, finance and human resources. In medical scientific research projects, legal support is also provided.

Amsterdam UMC has an open culture. This means that we hope that everyone feels welcome in our organization and that we strive to offer equal opportunities to everyone. We therefore cordially invite all interested parties to respond to this vacancy. Check out our approach to diversity and inclusion.
