The group of Dr. Harsha Devalla investigates fundamental mechanisms regulating heart development and disease, with particular emphasis on how heart rhythm is established at the cellular and molecular levels. We use state-of-the-art model systems including human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived cardiomyocyte subtypes and autonomic neurons, as well as 3D cardiac assembloids. We seek a molecular engineer for a project aimed at identifying genetic regulators of heart rate and rhythm.
This role is ideal for candidates who bring a strong wet-lab background in molecular cloning and genetic engineering together with solid computational skills for functional genomic screen design and analysis. You will build CRISPR tools, design optimized pooled genetic screens (e.g. Perturb-seq–based approaches), and troubleshoot the experimental workflows. Your expertise will combine cutting-edge tool development, including molecular cloning, lentiviral vector and library design, and the computational analysis of high-content transcriptomic and phenotypic data.
Additional responsibilities include:
We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher to lead the development and implementation of CRISPR-based technologies for functional genomics in cardiac and neuro-cardiac systems. You have:
Moreover, you are passionate about science and have a meticulous eye for detail. You are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary collaboration, enriching the diverse expertise in the group. With strong communication skills, a team-oriented mindset, and a proactive attitude, you thrive in a dynamic research environment.

Dr. Devalla's group is based in the department of Medical Biology at location AMC of the Amsterdam UMC. We strive for a supportive, collaborative environment promoting cross-pollination of ideas among researchers with knowledge of the cardiovascular system, stem cell biology, tissue engineering, molecular and phenotypic assays. There is strong complementarity with other PI-groups in the department working on in vivo models and gene therapies for cardiac repair.
During the publication period, applications will be handled continuously. If the vacancy is filled, it will be closed prematurely. Suitable candidates will be contacted by email to arrange a first interview (online), expected to be held in early January. Candidates who progress to the next stage will be invited for an in-person interview in late January.
If you have any questions about this position, please feel free to contact Dr. Harsha Devalla, group leader, at h.d.devalla@amsterdamumc.nl. Informal enquiries via email welcome.
For more information about the application procedure, please contact Rhiannon Sandfort, recruitment advisor, at r.e.sandfort@amsterdamumc.nl.
A reference check, screening and hiring test may be part of the procedure. Read here whether that applies to you. If you join us, we ask you for a VOG (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Internal candidates will be given priority over external candidates in case of equal suitability.
Acquisition in response to this vacancy will not be considered.
