We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD student (promovendus f/m) to join the Tracer Center Amsterdam (TCA). The successful candidate will work on an ERC Synergy funded collaborative research project focused on the development of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) tracers for malaria parasites. The position will be placed in a highly interdisciplinary research setting that brings together scientists from a number of disciplines including molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, radiopharmaceutical chemistry and imaging. As a PhD student in this project, your main task will be to design and synthesize novel ligands for a biological target that shows increased expression in parasites developing from a dormant to an active state. You will subsequently radiolabel promising compounds for in vitro and in vivo applications. You will be part of multidisciplinary team at the TCA and will work closely together with research groups from the consortium partners at BPRC (Prof. Cocken) and Radboud University (Prof. Bartfai).
As a PhD student on this project you will:
We invite applications from ambitious candidates, who meet the following requirements:
The department of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine is, amongst others, specialized in conducting research using nuclear imaging techniques, more specifically PET. Our aim is to use PET for diagnosis of disease, treatment monitoring and patient selection. TCA develops the new PET tracers needed in the clinic for neurological and/or neurodegenerative diseases, as well as oncology, rheumatology and cardiology. The research of TCA focusses on radiochemistry methodology development, selection of biological targets and development of new PET tracers for these targets, preclinical in vivo evaluation of new PET tracers as well as good manufacturing practice (GMP) compliant synthesis of PET tracers. TCA is now located in the Amsterdam UMC Imaging Center that is equipped with a brand new lab for TCA according to current state of the art. At the Imaging Center all imaging modalities are brought together and the synergy between basic research, pre-clinic and clinic will be further enhanced.
TCA collaborates with many national and international research institutes and pharmaceutical companies and is partner in many (inter)nationally funded projects, amongst others, ERC, NWO, ZON-MW, IHI, MJFF, EU and EU Marie Curie program.
The Amsterdam UMC wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
Working at Amsterdam UMC means working in an inspiring and professional environment where the development of talents and skills is strongly encouraged. We therefore offer you many opportunities for personal development, additional courses and a place to grow.
You are requested to write a cover letter in which you describe your motivation to apply, accompanied by your curriculum vitae, a list of grades of your MSc, and the names and contact details of two scientific referees.
In addition, applications are processed continuously during the publication period. Once the vacancy has been filled, it will be closed prematurely.
