Intestinal failure is most commonly defined as ‘’the reduction of gut function below the minimum necessary for the absorption of macronutrients and/or fluids and electrolytes, such that intravenous supplementation is required to maintain health and/or growth”. Despite its profound impact, the underlying causes of chronic intestinal failure in children remain poorly understood, and effective therapeutic options are limited.
This is an opportunity for an ambitious young scientist to take a next step in their academic career. You will be able to join forces with our current working groups at Tytgat Institute; bioinformatics, sequencing and (spatial) imaging core groups and Amsterdam UMC facilities. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leading scientific teams and securing research funding, or be a senior postdoctoral researcher demonstrating strong potential to develop these skills within the next 1-2 years. This is a unique opportunity to build your independent research career in a supportive, cutting-edge environment. At Amsterdam UMC, we are committed to your professional and personal growth, offering extensive opportunities for development, collaboration, and further training.
The primary appointment will be at the AMC location; part-time secondment to the VUmc location is possible.
The Pediatric Abdominal Center at Emma Children’s Hospital/Amsterdam UMC is the leading expert center in the Netherlands for managing this condition, while the Tytgat Institute is a pioneer to pre-clinical research in liver and intestinal diseases. Together, our goal is to advance knowledge of the causes of intestinal failure and develop innovative therapies to improve outcomes for affected children.
