As Department Chair Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology you will have the final responsibility for the medical, organizational, financial, educational and research policies of the department. As Department chair you will have the opportunity to take the lead, along with a team of specialists, in developing advanced rheumatological care.
You are responsible for substantive high-quality expertise within the department for carrying out educational tasks and research. You are responsible for the coordination of education and for embedding the department's research activities in the Research Institutes of Amsterdam UMC and in (international) research consortia.
In addition, you are responsible for the developing a long-term plan for the Department that fits within the integral strategic policy of Amsterdam UMC, and you will make visible contributions to the Division’s policy and the network of rheumatological care in the region. As head of department you will also be appointed as full professor.
The department has a number of substantive focus areas directed towards the diseases SLE, systemic sclerosis, inflammatory myopathy, vasculitis and (refractory) inflammatory arthritis, coupled with clinical and translational immunological research using unique biomaterials and molecular imaging.

Since June 2018, the university medical centers VUmc and AMC have merged as Amsterdam UMC, where 17,000 people work together - at two locations - on three core tasks: patient care, education and scientific research. Amsterdam UMC focuses mainly on tertiary care, often utilizing complex treatments. In order to provide 'care in the right place' we collaborate with hospitals in the wider region. In addition, Amsterdam UMC trains doctors, medical specialists, nurses and other healthcare professionals. In the field of scientific research, Amsterdam UMC participates at the highest (inter)national level.
The rheumatology department consists of 16 medical specialists, as well as scientific researchers, fellows in training to become rheumatologists, and supporting staff. The Department is a Dutch NFU Center of Expertise for the treatment of systemic auto-immune diseases and vasculitis, a member of ERN ReConnet, and a EULAR Center of Excellence. The Department has been working with Reade since 2014 in the field of research and education within the Amsterdam Rheumatological Center (ARC). There is also intensive research collaboration with the laboratory for Experimental Immunology.
As Department Head you will report to the Division Chair regarding the results achieved by the Department, the policy that you developed and its implementation, your contributions to the development of the Division’s policy, and your strategic advice to the Board of Directors.
