Doctoral position of molecular/cell biologist at the Centre for Connective Tissue Research of Dr. D. Micha, Human Genetics Department, Amsterdam UMC.
The PhD student will be involved in the development of pharmacological and gene therapy for the rare genetic bone fragility disorder Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), mainly caused by defects in collagen type I (10.1007/s00439-021-02302-2). The project will focus on the advancement of therapeutic approaches by their study in both in vitro and in vivo models of OI.
The project will be performed at the modernly equipped O|2 Lab Building and other facilities across Amsterdam UMC.
You will work on a unique project which aims the development of a stem cell type in which genetic modifications can be applied to promote bone tissue regeneration. You will specifically use CRISPR technology in combination with numerous methods by which generation and validation of osteogenic cell types can be investigated. You will also characterize a new OI in vivo model, in which candidate compound testing will be performed.
As a PhD candidate, you are committed to conduct independent and original scientific research, to report on this research in international publications and presentations, and to present the results of the research in a PhD dissertation, to be completed within 4 years.
We are looking for a highly ambitious, motivated and enthusiastic PhD candidate with a strong background in molecular & cell biology, genetics or biotechnology.
The successful applicant has:
The Center for Connective Tissue Research specialises for many years on the study of genetic bone disorders. Starting from the genetics, we perform basic, translational and clinically oriented research to address the diverse pathologies of bone conditions.
During the publication period, applications will be handled continuously. If the vacancy is filled, it will be closed prematurely.
Start date is preferably as soon as possible.
