The project

The research of the department focuses on improving treatment strategies for lymphoid hematological malignancies. In view of that, we are developing next generation optimized Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)-T cells, with the aim to manufacture these in house and to evaluate the CAR T cells in  investigator-initiated clinical trials. We are seeking an experienced and motivated program manager who will be responsible for the execution of the program and who will closely work with the scientists, principal investigators and the hematologists involved in the project.

About your role

Essential Duties And Job Functions
For a fast development of a newly developed CAR-T Cell Therapies. The project manager will:

  • Create and steer program teams, bringing together both the Amsterdam UMC team members and sourcing external subject matter experts where needed
  • Effectively manage the project timelines, deliverables, milestones and budget. Ensure that development plans are written and kept up to date. Take the responsibility of timely reporting of the project progress as well as planning/forecasting to sponsors, collaborators, stakeholders as well as to functional teams
  • Develop a robust and priority-based model to ensure rapid and effective tracking/monitoring and risk management, including any required action in the process of project.
  • Partner and oversee program teams to
    • generate a solid pre-clinical package
    • evaluate regulatory impact on programs
    • ensure manufacturing development, and validation leading up to GMP grade CAR T production
    • ensure facilities are in place to allow for GMP grade CAR T production
    • interact with CDMOs/CROs where needed
    • ensure timely execution of clinical trial(s) in collaboration with the clinical trial unit of the department of Hematology
    • monitor budget and resources
  • Collaborate with other functional departments (eg: laboratory, pharmacy, P&O, ) to resolve issues. Collaborate and negotiate with vendors in the supply or QC chain.
  • Partner with Medical Affairs, Government and Public Affairs, National and European regulatory agencies to ensure effective development and implementation of strategies, which are all are in compliance with national and European regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Develop effective working relationships with sponsors, collaborators and other key stakeholders.

About you

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • A university degree in Health Science
  • Demonstrated project/program management experience within the biotech/healthcare industry and ability to translate science into clinical practice. Ability to apply knowledge of drug/cell therapy development in an academic setting
  • Knowledge of GMP-compliant cell manufacturing processes, including regulatory requirements. Ability to determine priority actions that align with a fast and effective clinical implementation strategy of developed CAR-T cell therap(ies).
  • Knowledge of  viral vector-based CAR-T cell therapy product development and supply chain in hemato-oncology is a pre.
  • Knowledge of G(C)LP and GCP is a pre.
  • Analytical, strategical and pragmatical thinking, ability to identify and analyze complex issues, resilient profile with the ability to execute sound judgment and make decisions in ambiguous situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills including communication and harmonization skills across teams as well as external parties.  Ability to resolve conflict and drive consensus among cross-functional teams within timelines.
  • Excellent and demonstrable skills of written and spoken English and Dutch and proficiency at communicating verbally and in written form.

Our offer
  • A contract for one year (12 months) with the intention to extend for 24 months.

The Department of Hematology of Amsterdam UMC is an (inter-)national leading academic Hematology Center, caring for patients with hematological diseases in the most innovative way. Hematologists are working closely together with scientists within the department in order to translate our own discoveries to the clinic. There is a long history with  investigator-initiated studies. You will work closely with the scientists, principal investigators and the hematologists involved in the project.
