The project

Worldwide, 5 billion people lack access to safe and affordable surgical care. Global Surgery Amsterdam (GSA) aims to improve surgical care through research, education and training for surgical conditions that have the highest health impact globally. We develop projects collaboratively with stakeholders in low -and middle-income countries (LMICs).

About your role

Your goal is to support a group of talented researchers and educators in global surgery. You will be involved in existing projects and you will be encouraged to initiate new projects that take on challenges in this emerging field of surgery and global health. You will coordinate research projects and supervise educational activities for students, medical doctors and PhD candidates. The role provides opportunities for growth.

About you

We are looking for a research and training coordinator (m/f/x) with at least the following experience and qualifications:

  • A post-doctoral profile with experience in training/education and global health;
  • Experience with coordinating, supervising and teaching students and/or PhD candidates;
  • Excellent command of Dutch and English;
  • Expertise in raising funds for new projects is recommended.

In a natural way you possess enthusiasm for the goals that global surgery stands for and, with your excellent communication skills, you know how to propagate this. Are you also proactive in your work ethic, education minded and ambitious with regard to research and training, then you may be our new research coordinator!

Our offer
  • We initially offer a 0.4 fte position, salary scale 10 (based on qualifications and experience) with the possibility to expand, depending on the growth of our organization and our collaborative success in raising funds for new research projects.

  • An 8.3% end-of-year bonus and 8% holiday pay.

  • Pension is accrued at the ABP. Amsterdam UMC contributes a large part of the premium (70%).
