About your role

Currently, we have a 4-year position for a motivated and creative candidate for a PhD position for research on transfusion related acute lung injury (TRALI) and transfusion associated circulatory overload (TACO). TRALI and TACO are the leading causes of transfusion related morbidity and mortality world-wide. We have several pre-clinical models (endothelial and animal models) of TRALI and TACO running investigating the pathophysiology and potential preventive and therapeutic strategies for these life threatening syndromes. Next to the pre-clinical studies we are investigating transfusion reactions in human volunteer studies. Furthermore we are planning to set up a large prospective cohort study of TACO and TRALI cases. The PhD will be responsible for running the experiments and trials. In addition to the research, the PhD student will be responsible for writing reports and scientific articles, and will be participating in national and international scientific meetings. As a student in the AMC graduate school the PhD student will have access to further training and development. We offer a challenging learning environment in a young team. The PhD student will have significant interaction with the other PhD students of our research group.
